Adam Wexler, a founder and CEO of Rank ‘Em, has an ambitious plan to recognize the best songs ever recorded by each and every musical artist of all time.  He and his three co-founders are launching today a platform that relies not on commercial success but on the collective intelligence of the fan base to sort each artist’s catalog from best to worst material.

Rank ‘Em is the result of 18 months of bootstrapped development and has invented crowdsourcing ranking methods that are well differentiated from the nearest competitive user-generated sites RateItAll and Listology.  The company believes that fans of a particular artist will take pride in expressing themselves and that they will help the uninformed come to appreciate new favorite titles.

The foremost path to monetization is driving transactions as listeners discover and buy new songs.  There will also be opportunities for Rank ‘Em to create and deliver valuable content based on its charts and the metadata it is collecting.  Further expansion is possible into such categories as television shows, movies, and books.

We are all infatuated by lists and rankings.  Look at the headlines on most any magazine on a newsstand, and consider the number of books of lists that are published on a wide array of topics.  (I wish I had a list to add to this post, but I’ll wait to enter my choices on Rank ‘Em.)  This company should resonate with music fans across all genres and become the highest ranking brand in its category.

See Lance...how would I ever find a great song like that? I look on iTunes, Amazon & Last.FM, and it's nowhere to be found! Now, that's a shame...and btw, it looks like we could use your rankings on the site!

Danny - Music critics tend to be "self-proclaimed experts." Who is to say they know your favorite artist's best songs better than you do?

James - Great to hear! We just got off the ground yesterday, but like you said, there's so music to consume and so much good music is often lost in the shuffle. We're hoping to create the best crowdsourced solution and allow people like you to make the difference!

If anybody reading this post would like an invite to our private alpha, you can reach me at adam.wexler@gorankem.com, and I'll see what I can do.

As an avid new music fan, a site like this would be invaluable in helping sort through the clutter to find music that really speaks to the masses. Great example of filling a real need in the world of music discovery. Can't wait to see this site 'rise to the top'.

Just to be clear, my note is a reference to a New Order song, the band that Adam refers to in his "the title ROCKS (in a music kind of way…)" comment. I love these guys and the passion that they have for what they are doing.

This seems interesting -- a good way to view what actual fans like. Maybe we won't have to rely on those snobby music critics anymore :P

Thanks for the kind words, Ben! We're ecstatic that our private alpha release date has finally arrived. We can't wait to see some of our initial users rank their favorites and get this resource off to a great start.

...and by the way, the title ROCKS (in a music kind of way...)
